The Crimson harriers will attempt to maintain their winning ways this afternoon when they race Princeton and Yale for the Big Three championship at New Haven. The freshmen will oppose yearling squads from the same two schools. The race will be scored as two separate meets.
Coach Jaakko Mikkola has received doctors' permission to make the trip and will see his team in action for the first time this year. Bill McCurdy, however, will continue to do the actual coaching of the team.
Harvard appears to have a good chance to win the championship for the first time in recent years Yale, although it has a lot of depth, has dropped three meets so far this year.
The Blue has one outstanding threat in their Captain, George Dole. Warren Clifford, John Meader, Frank Efinger, Joe Albanese, and John Cleary have also turned in top performances at one time or another. In comparative races, Yale showed better against Brown, while the Crimson performance against Dartmouth was considerably better than the Blue's.
Princeton has an outstanding threat for individual honors in Captain Al Pittis, who has turned in consistently good performances throughout the fall. He's backed by Toby Maxwell and Joe Bolster. The Orange and Black have beaten Rutgers and Columbia this year, while losing to Penn and Georgetown.
Harvard will be at top strength with Captain Dave Gregory a definite threat for first place. Dave Cairns has been improving with every meet, as has the sophomore group of Hugh Maguire, Hal Gerry, Emil San Soucie, and Bruce Phillips.
The freshmen, weakened by injuries, will be the underdogs in their meet. The Princeton freshmen have won two and lost one, while the Yale pups are undefeated in two meets. Yardling Captain Dave Ingle and Yale's Bob Stevens appear to be the outstanding runners in this race.
