VAN CORTLANDT PARK, N.Y., Nov. 9--Dick Shea and the Army harriers continued their strangle-hold on the Heptagonal Cross-Country Championship today.
For the third straight year, Shea won the individual title and for the third straight year the West Pointers made a shambles of the team race by taking four of the first five spots. The Crimson harriers finished a very disappointing seventh behind Cornell, Navy, Yale, Princeton, and Dartmouth. Brown, Columbia, and Penn brought up the rear.
Crimson Scorers
Captain Dave Gregory was able to finish no better than seventh, but nevertheless, managed to beat two runners who had edged him in earlier meets. Emil San Soucie was the next Crimson finisher, way back in 27th position. Dave Cairns was a disappointing 35th, but was hindered throughout by a bad stitch in his side. Hal Gerry and Steve Sharp finished out the Harvard scoring in 40th and 43rd positions respectively.
Cornell Man Fourth
Shea, one of the distance runners on whom the United States will depend at the Olympic Games this summer, finished all by himself in the five-mile race. He was followed by two other teammates before Bob Grossman of Cornell broke up an Army sweep. James Effer finished in ninth spot to wind up the Cadet scoring.
