South Street Closed On Football Weekends

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

South Street will be closed to all traffic on football Saturdays between noon and 4 p.m. the Cambridge City Council ordered yesterday. The fact that Cambridge police had to tow away 10 cars last weekend prompted the move. South Street runs immediately north of Kirkland House and south of the I.A.B.

Police Lieutenant William Nixon reported that the commercial companies towed the cars to the Ellery Street Garage at 418 Broadway, but officials at the garage claimed they had seen no such cars. Nixon also named the Ofgant Chevrolet Company at 844 Main Street as a storage center for such cars.

One of the Ofgant employees said that several cars had been towed there from around the Square in the past week, but no more than usual.
