Student, Girl Molested Near 'Cliffe

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Two men robbed a University student and molested his Radcliffe date on the Observatory grounds the night before College began, the student revealed yesterday. He delayed reporting the incident earlier for fear of worrying his date's family, he told the CRIMSON.

The student would report the incident only when his anonymity was guaranteed. Both he and the girl escaped unharmed, but the two men robbed him of $9.

"We spent the earlier part of the evening in a Radcliffe dorm," said the student. "At about 11 p.m. we decided to go for a walk. It was a nice night and not too dark, so we decided to stroll through the Observatory grounds."

He added that he know the grounds had been frequented by University men and their dates, even though it was against University rules.

"Shortly after we heard the Memorial Hall clock strike 11:30," the student continued, "I heard a twig snap somewhere near us. I jokingly asked my date if she had heard anything, but she just laughed.

"Then we heard a voice behind us command, 'Lie down flat on you stomache and put your faces in the grass."

"We were hesitating when the voice said, hurry if you don't want to get hurt'. We could do nothing but comply.

"One man, wearing a tan coat, came up to me, put his knee on my back, and asked where my money was. I told him it was in my right hip pocket, and he took my wallet. In it were $9, my bursar's card and driver's license.

"His friend had gone over to my date. She yelled to me, saying not to do anything for fear I'd got hurt. But I asked the men to give me back my wallet and leave.

"The one in the tan coat seemed to be getting nervous. He called to his friend by name. 'Larry,' he said, 'let her go and let's get out of here.'

"Larry paid no attention. His friend called again, and, after a few moments, they both left.

"She's all right now, a little shaken, but unhurt."

The student concluded that he thought the situation a very dangerous one and that there is every chance it will be repeated.
