Three leading members of the New Boston Committee will speak before University audiences in the next few days. Daniel J. Ahearn, executive director of the committee, and Mary K. Fitzgerald, a candidate for the Boston School Committee who has been endorsed by the N.B.C., have been invited by the Harvard Liberal Union. James Ryan, co-chairman of the Young Citizens Committee, will address members of the Law School's Democratic Club.
Ryan was the chairman of the Students for Hynes Committee, which had considerable influence in determining the outcome of the 1949 mayoralty elections. His talk is expected to blast the political figures who have dominated local politics for decades. The Young Citizens' Committee which he heads is now part of the N.B.C.
Ahearn and Mrs. Fitzgerald will lead a general discussion on "The Origins and Purposes of the New Boston Committee" on October 23, at a place to be announced. The meeting is open to everyone.
The Law School meeting, which will be restricted to members of the Democratic Club, will hear Ryan discuss "Boston Machine Politics." It is scheduled for 3 p.m. today in the Wheeler Room of Holmes Hall.
