Yale Drops 150 lb: Crew Coach

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Yale last week dropped 150-pound crew coach Roy Rom from its staff and Pennsylvania refused financial support to its lightweight crew, but Harvard as yet plans no out in appropriations for the 150's.

Rom has coached at Yale for the past four years. Two years ago the Ellis were undefeated in American competition, but lost in the Thames Challenge Cup race at Henley. His dismissal leaves Harvard as the only eastern university which has a special 150-pound coach. Yale will continue to give some support to its lightweights, who will be instructed by a part-time coach.

The Pennsylvania crew last summer won the Thamas Challenge Cup in England, the highest achievement in light weight rowing. Despite this, the Quakers this year will receive neither money nor coaching from their university.

Coach Bert Haines of Harvard said last night that he had no comment to make on the lightweight crew situation at Penn and Yale.
