Ponn's swimmers proved a pushover for the second straight year as the varsity won every event and took second in all but one. The Crimson won, 65 to 10; a swimming shutout is 68 to 7. The meet was the Eastern Intercollegiate League opener for both teams.
Dave Hedberg was the only doublewinner, taking the 50-and 100-yard freestyle races with an excellent time in the former. Doug Kinney won the 440 and placed second in the 220-yard freestyle.
John Steinhart's 2:19.1 set a Hutchinson Pool and Harvard record in the 200-yard backstroke. It was the first time either team, had swum this race. In previous years, 150 yards was the standard intercollegiate distance for backstrokers.
Another standout for Coach Hal Ulen was Pete Dillingham, who compiled 119.73 points in the dive, an impressive total for as away meet.
