Quintet Fades Green, 67-52

The varsity quintet won its first Eastern Intercollegiate League contest last night at the Blockhouse, as it beat Dartmouth, 68, to 52. Won easily with an attack that was both faster and smoother than the Indians', the victory broke the team's four game losing streak.

Leading the Crimson attack was Captain Ed Smith, who cut behind a porous Dartmouth defense with a series of effective one-handers to pick up nine field goals and a total of 20 points.

The Crimson started off with a quick six points, then Dartmouth fathomed Norm Shepard's early, sons defense--pulled in close around the basket--and began to hit from the outside. The Indians moved even with the varsity and led 9 to 3 after tea minutes; then the varsity shifted to a man-to-man defense, its at-patteras started to click, had it palled away to lead at the half 30 to 24.

The second half was all the Crimson's. The varsity picked up seven points before the Indians scored a basked, and even a right Dartmouth full-court press after tea minutes of the period failed to cut much into the Crimson lead.

Norm Shepard stuck to his starting five--Smith, Dick Lionette, Jim Gabler, John Stevenson, and Bill Hickey--until well in the second half. In the opener, the Yardling quintet shot accurately and controlled rebounds to beat B.U.'s freshman, 66 to 50. High man for the freshmen was Ed Blodnick, with a total of 21 points
