Kirkland Finishes Own Annual; 200 Copies Sent Out

Final testimonial to Kirkland's "House spirit" came yesterday when Kirkland editors revealed that the House yearbook, which was mailed out during the summer, will break even financially and may even make a profit for the Deacons.

The book never would have come out at all if a former House member, Robert W. Shoemaker, Jr. '33, had not volunteered to print the album free in his Anderson, Indiana, printing shop. Kirkland House Committee men had abandoned the traditional book when losses from the 1948-49 edition dug drastically into House funds.

Even after the elimination of printing costs, other expenses in engraving, paper, and photography threatened the success of the Annual until "Spirit" showed again and 200 of Kirkland's 350 men subscribed for the 85 page album.

There are 100 copies left, which the staff hopes to sell to new House residents.
