Graduate Center Opens for GSAS

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Men began arriving this week at the new Graduate Center, which will provide graduate students in Cambridge with their first large dormitory and social center. William James and Richards Halls will house men from the Graduate Schools of Arts and Sciences, Design, Education, and Public Administration.

Designed in modern style by Walter Gropius, the eight new balls were constructed with a view to keeping building costs as low as possible. The seven dormitories hold almost 600 men, two-thirds of whom are Law School students.

The center also includes a large Commons building.

Dedication ceremonies will take place on October 6.

Later this fall three modern murals by Miro, Bayer, and Arp will be pleased in various parts of the dormitories. The works are being completed by these artists especially for the graduate dormitories.
