National Science Foundation Kills Protested Amendments

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A pair of amendments to the national Science Foundation bill were killed this spring when educators, scientists, the Attorney General's office, and the Department of Defense protested them.

The amendments required F.B.I. approval for personnel receiving scholarships or jobs under the foundation; they were struck from the bill by a joint House-Senate committee after the protests. A somewhat similar bill concerning Atomic Energy Commission scholarships has been passed by Congress.
