Nine players of the tennis squad left Cambridge early yesterday for Philadelphia where they will meet a traditionally strong Pennsylvania team this afternoon. Although the Quakers are not in a class with North Carolina or Princeton, recent victors over the Crimson, the varsity will still have to be at top form to win.
Breaking into the lineup for the first time this year will be Paul Tobias, who was sidelined the week before the spring trip with a chipped bone in his foot. Tobias will replace Mitch Roose at number six.
The rest of the team will remain the same as Thursday's North Carolina slate. Broward Craig will play first singles, Captain Hilliard Hughes two, Bob Bramhall three, Jack Frey four, and Bob Kaynes five. Craig and Hughes will make up the first doubles combination, while Bramhall and Reese will again fill the second slot.
The freshmen play Babson Institute at 3 p.m. today on the Soldiers Field courts. Coach Cory Wynn has made one lineup change for the first match a Yardling tennis team has ever played against Babson.
Bork Johnson will move up to fifth singles, where he played at the beginning of the season, and Bill Harrington will play sixth. In a test match yesterday, Johnson barely beat Harrington in three marathon sets.
