'Cliffe Employees Demand 4-Point Contract Change

Slashing contract charges including shorter working hours, higher pay, and longer vacations were asked by Radcliffe Building Service Employees at their meeting last night.

Joseph L. McMcCarthy, business agent and secretary-treasurer of the local union, discussed the contract now in effect, which is the same as that used by Harvard employees, and the 35 men at the meeting voted on proposed revisions.

The men want a 40-hour week instead of the 44-hour week they are now working, with the same pay. Watchmen, who now work 48 hours a week, also want a 40-hour week with some overtime guaranteed. The amount has ben left up to the negotiating committee.

Ask Overtime Revision

Overtime to be computed on a daily rather than weekly basis was also requested. This revision would mean that men who have worked longer than their normal shift during a week in which they have not worked full time would still receive overtime pay for that period.

The final demand is that employees receive three weeks vacation after working for the College ten years, instead of the 15 in the present regulation.
