Jim Smith topped a field of 75 to win the Rifle Club's annual trophy in a University competition that closed over the weekend.
Smith, high man on the freshman team this year, won the three-position match with a point total of 285. He scored 98 in the prone position, 96 kneeling, and 91 standing.
Glen Reem finished second with a score of 280 and close behind him was Paul Shuttleworth with 279. Shuttleworth will be next year's varsity captain.
NRA the Sponsor
The National Riffle Association sponsors this annual trophy competition and will present the prize to Smith in a formal ceremony later this Spring.
Smith's average score for the year is 283, which makes him a top prospect for next year's varsity. A week ago in the final match of the season against the Nevada University freshmen, he fired 291--his highest of the season.
