N.S.F. Board Chooses Conant for Chairman

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

President Conant was elected chairman of the National Science Foundation Board at its organizing meeting yesterday.

The board is made up of 24 men, who were appointed by President Truman November 2 to promote basic research and education in the sciences. It put off recommending a director of the foundation until the next meeting, January 3.

President Truman is reported planning to appoint former North Carolina Senator Frank S. Graham to the $15,000-a-year post.

Under the law passed earlier this year setting up the foundation, Truman cannot make the appointment until he gets the board's recommendation.
