Only a light signal drill remains for the varsity football team before the start of the 1950 season. The squad finished its heavy pre-season work yesterday at Soldiers Field with a long drill in which emphasis was placed on setting defenses against Columbia's winged-T attack.
With Captain Phil Isenberg back in action after being sidelined with with a cold for the past few days, the squad's disability list was reduced to two. Halfback Hill Healy is definitely out of tomorrow's game with a leg injury while Stan Britton's appraised ankle will probably shelve him.
Coach Lloyd Jordan yesterday set up four platoons which will see action first, depending upon whether the CRIMSON kicks or receives. The teams were a kick-off unit, a receiving unit, a first offensive team and a first defensive team.
End Fred Ravreby did the booting for the kick-off platoon which included Hank Rate, Gil O'Neil, John West, Nick Culolias, Bob Stargel, Dusty Burke, Bill Rosenau, Dick Heidtmann, Red Wylie and Duke Sedgwick.
New Men
As soon as the runback was completed, Jordan sent in Dike Hyde in place of lists at defensive end; Tom Ossman and Paul O'Brien took ever as linebackers, and Dave Warden and Burke were the halfbacks. While played safety men.
The receiving unit consisted of tackles Stargel and Culolias, guards Heidtmann, and Rosenau, and center O'Brien up front; ends Ravreby and Paul Crowley and quarterback Gil O'Neil formed the next wave. Warden and Isenberg were at halfbacks and fullback Jerry Blitz was the deep man.
When the receiving team took over on offense, Cal Lowenstein and John West went into the backfield at quarterback and fullback, respectively.
Columbia T-Party
Jordan then painstakingly worked his defensive unit against the Jayvees who simulated Columbia's Winged-T. When the Jayvees sent flankers left and right, respectively, ends Hyde and Ravreby alternately dropped backs to shift the normal 6-2-2-1 defense alignment into a 5-3-2-1.
The defensive drill completed, Jordan had dummies dragged into place; then he sent the first three offensive teams through a drill against five and six-man lines.

The Crimson is expected to take over in the Stadium today as soon as the Lions are through.
