Dartmouth ran its undefeated soccer string to five as the Crimson booters dropped a 4 to 2 count to the Big Green at Hanover yesterday. The fast-breaking Indian offense went all out for two periods to rack up its winning three goals.
Holding a 3 to 2 margin at the half, Dartmouth then pilled its halfbacks and insides back in front of the goals to throttle Crimson scoring attempts for the rest of the afternoon. The final Green score came early in the third stanza on an indirect free kick.
Harvard started strong. After five minutes of play center half Bob Hardling looped a pass down the middle to Vern Drehmel, who slapped the ball past Dartmouth goalie-captain Dave Saxton for the first score.
Although the Crimson dominated the first period play, the score was tied ten minutes later when a Harvard defender repulsed a Green quick-break thrust a little too energetically, incurring a penalty.
Shots began coming from in close as Dartmouth pressed for an early advantage. Twenty five seconds after the second period opened, the Green line flooded through and center forward Will Leshure ran the ball into the goal.
After 12 minutes of slam bang midfield play, the Crimson retaliated as right inside Charlie Weiss took a pass from Tex Goldstein and slammed it into the nets to tie the score.
Two minutes later the Green moved into its 3 to 2 halftime lead on another break through shot by left wing Don Weitz. Clint, Chin, Green right inside, headed the final marker at 12:15 of the third period.
