27 Attend Nevins' State Dept. Talk

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

"I'm amazed at this turnout in view of Senator McCarthy's recent attacks on my department." John P. Nevins of the State Department told 27 would-be diplomats yesterday at the Student Employment Office. Nevins spoke about openings in the U.S. information and Education Service.

Men with ability in foreign languages and with administrative experience, he said, are needed to fill positions in Information and Education Centers in Latin America, Asia, and Europe. "But they must be willing to spend at least two years in these centers."

Nevins said that the purpose of the service is to combat Soviet propaganda and better U.S. relations with foreign countries. The notion that the U.S. is a land of gangsters, imperialists, and Indians still on the warpath is being combatted by libraries, lectures, and literature.
