Charley Brickley Dies in New York

Charles E. Brickley '15, three time All-America halfback, died December 28 in New York of a heart attack. He was 58 years old.

Brickley, perhaps the most famous drop-kicker in football history, was best known for his feat on November 22, 1913, when he kicked five field goals--one from placement and four on drop-kicks--to account for all of the Crimson's points in a 15 to 5 win over Yale.

His talents were not restricted to kicking alone, however. Against Yale in 1912, be scored a touchdown, intercepted a Yale pass and returned it 42 yards, and kicked two field goals. His work as a blocking back led to the following comment in the official record book of Harvard athletics:

"Brickley gained more ground and put Harvard in more scoring positions that led to a score through his marked ability as an interferer than would equal his record as a drop-kicker."
