Weightman Geoffrey Tootell '50 of Cambridge has been elected track captain for next year it was announced at the team banquet held at the Varsity Club last night. John L. Moore '51 of West Palm Beach, Florida and Eliot House will be manager.
The 230 pound, 22-year old future captain established a new Harvard record in the shotput at the Heptagonal Meet here this winter when he heaved the shot 50 feet, 8 inches. He had won both the discus and the shot in every dual meet this spring until Yale's Olympic stars, Jim Fuchs and Vic Frank forced him to settle for two thirds at New Haven Saturday.
Weighty Question
In his speech after the banquet coach Jaakko Mikkola revealed that he plans to break in Geoff and Don Trimble in the weight and hammer next year. The graduation of John Thorndyke, Larry Ward, and Bob Forsyth this spring and Howie Reed next February will leave the Crimson weak in the hammer, which has been its strongest event this season.
Freshmen Dave Cairns, Dave Grutzner and Charlie Durakis received special awards at the banquet, as did javelin thrower Charlie Keith and hammer man Forsyth.
