Mask Missing in Museum Mystery

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A chalk-white modern theatrical mask was stolen from the Germanic Museum late Friday afternoon, leaving professors and police baffled for a motive.

In the bizarre robbery, the case holding the carved wooden face was pried open near closing time, but the break went unnoticed by the guard until he locked up later Friday afternoon.

Professor Charles L. Kuhn, Curator of the museum, explained last night that the mask was really not too valuable, having been carved only recently by a New York man. Kuhn called the thievery the first in the museum in several years.

Police suspect that a member of a group of high-school students which inspected the exhibits earlier Friday afternoon may have taken the mask.
