Assistant Dean Dan H. Fenn, Jr. '44 yesterday announced opportunities for students to work with the United Nations this summer, and with the State Department permanently.
The State Department program, which is expected to start in July, is open to graduating seniors. Three students selected by Dean Fenn, Charles R. Cherington '35, associate professor of Government, and Daniel S. Cheever '39, assistant professor of Government, will be appointed as interns with the Department at starting pay of $2520 a year.
Permanents Posts
Successful candidates will be promoted to $2880 after the first six months period, and later to $3240. Outstanding interns will be given an opportunity for a permanent appointment in the Department of State.
For students who are completing two years of College this June, eight-week summer internships with the United Nations are open. These pay a flat $300, "for living expenses."
All State Department candidates must be American citizens. UN candidates may be citizens of member nations if they are nominated directly to their respective Member Nation Representative at the United Nations in New York.
All candidates should consult one or more of the three members of the nominating committee before May 7.
