The freshman tennis team opens its season this afternoon with a match at Milton Academy. According to Corey Wynn, the Yardling coach, this year's squad is a strong one and a close match is to be expected.
The team will be headed by Gerry Murphy, star of freshman basketball, who will face Milton's number one man. Last year while in the army, he won the Fort Bragg doubles championship, playing with Bob Bramhall '49, now of the varsity squad.
In order of their positions the remainder of the team will consist of Don Blackmer, Dave Aldrich, Charlie Thompson, John Loel, and John Fairclothe.
Wynn is unsure of just who his doubles combinations will be, except for the number one match. Playing in this position for the Crimson will be Murphy and Chase Peterson.
Last year the freshmen defeated Milton 11 to 4.
