Rugby coach Ed Callanan will see for the first time how his squad can perform against opposition when it meets an MIT team on the House football field at 3 p.m. today.
The Engineers will play a team which has been practicing on a completely organized basis for the first time since the war, while the MIT ruggers, who are mostly English students, play on a much less formal basis.
Today's game will also mean stiff practice for the Crimson Rugby Club which leaves Saturday to participate in the annual Bermuda Rugby Week.
Callanan, who is pretty happy over the way his men have adapted themselves to the English style of playing football, has several good backs. Captain Joe Eaton, John Densmore, and former varsity gridder Sam Adams all show speed and a knack in handling the ball in the fluid and constant action which typifies rugger.
Rugger fans and curious spectators will get a taste of typical British sportsmanship once the game is over. Instead of going through the American post-game routine of a rubbing-down and removing cumbersome equipment, the teams will join in drinking beer after the final whistle.
