Relay Decisive Event As Crimson Salvages Match in Enemy Pool

For the second time in a week, Hal Ulen's varsity swimmers couldn't tell victory from defeat until the last seconds. m Against Army a week ago, the 400-yard relay spelled disaster. Saturday night it meant thrilling victory over Princeton and second place in the Eastern Intercollegiate Swimming League.

Harvard won 39 to 36 after trailing 36 to 39 before the realy.

The Crimson took five out of nine first places, taking the 200-yard freestyle, the 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard breast stroke, the quarter-mile freestyle (Ted Norris again), and the final relay. Jerry German, Bob Berke, Shep Brown, and Joe Fox were responsible for victory in that crucial race.

300-yd. medley relay--Won by Princeton: Purdue, Kirby, and Pleninger. Time--3:04.8 seconds.

200-yd. freestyle--Won by Berke (H); second, Gorman (H); third, Hargrave (P) Time--2:18.3 seconds.

50-yd. freestyle--Won by Jadwin (P); second, Fox (H); third, Kineke (P). Time--24.2 seconds.

Dive--Won by Buttle (P); second. Weir (H); third, Jacobs (P). Winner's points 113.5.

100-yd. freestyle--Won by Fox (H); second, Jadwin (P); third, Berke (H). Time--53.8 seconds.

150-yard backstroke--Won by Hargrave (P); second, Purdue (P); third, Woods (H). Time--1:42.3 seconds.

200-yd. breast stroke--Won by Hoelzer (H) second, Bardes (P); third, Ward (H). Time--2:33.5 seconds.

440-yd. freestyle--Won by Norris (H) second, Peterson (P). Time--5:02.5 seconds.

400-yd. freestyle relay--Won by Harvard; Gorman, Berke, Brown, and Fox. Time--3:38.4 seconds.
