Howie Houston's pin in the heavy-weight class gave Harvard a 19 to 13 victory over the Brown wrestling team yesterday afternoon in Providence.
With the Crimson leading 14 to 13, going into the final match, Houston pinned his old football rival John Chernak at 1:02 with a body press. Houston's five points preserved the Harvard win.
Kozol Draws
The lead changed hands twice before the visitors finally took command. Joe Kozol drew in the 121-pound class and Brown went ahead on Gray Michael's decision over Bob Abboud at 128.
Dave Smith pinned Captain Frank Manchester in the 136-pound department with a reverse nelson and body press at 3:55, but Harvard's 7 to 5 advantage was turned into an 8 to 7 Bruin lead on Sandy Beachen's decision over Buddy King at 145.
Crimson Comes Back
Brown increased its lead to 11 to 7 as George Held decisioned Rod Skinner at 155, but then Harvard rallied. Tom Connors registered a first period pin over Brown's Tiny O'Donnell in his first start at 165, and Captain Bob Claflin drew with Tony Travison at 175 to set the stage for Houston's triumph.
In the freshman match which preceded the varsity bout, the undefeated Brown Cubs took their sixth straight win at the expense of John Chaffee's Yardlings, 25 to 5.
