The first in a series of "Union Platter Parties" will be held at 8:30 p.m. Saturday night in the Union, John S. Hermann '53, Chairman of the Union Dance Committee, announced last night.
The music will be recorded, but the dance committee believs that "the use of records will help to satisfy all tastes."
"The idea of the record dance," Hermann said, "is to present an opportunity, at no cost to the Freshman, for an evening's entertainment now that the football season is over. It is part of an overall campaign to make the best possible utilization of Union facilities." If the dance is successful, he added, it will be followed by similar affairs in the late fall and winter.
First Since Yale
The dance constitutes the third large Freshman affair of 1949. The last party in the Union was held on Yale weekend for all University members who were unable to go to New Haven. It was principally notable for the fact that it was the first so-called "Smoker" at the College to which women were invited.
