Annex Plans New Dormitory For Occupancy in Fall, 1952

New Hall Will House 100-120 Students; Committee Plans Review of Structural Needs

Radcliffe will have a new dormitory ready for occupancy in September, 1952, provided building costs do not rise, President W. K. Jordan announced yesterday.

The new dormitory, which will be built as an adjacent wing to Moors Hall, will house between 100 and 120 students, bringing the total of resident students at the 'Cliffe to 85 percent. With the completion of the new dormitory, it will be possible, President Jordan said, for any student to live in residence.

A committee was appointed Monday to begin examining the needs and details for construction of the dormitory, Jordan added. Committee members include Jordan, chairman ex-officio, Mrs. Henry A. Murray, Miss Mary Small, Dean of Residence, and Richard W. Thorpe, business manager of the College. This committee will meet regularly and hand a statement of needs to architects by the end of the year.

Integrated with Moors

The kitchen and heating plant of Radcliffe's newly erected Moors Hall will serve the new dormitory, which will probably be built on the Walker Street side of the quadrangle. President Jordan added that the building will conform closely to the Moors Hall architecture.

Construction of the new Hall will complete two sides of the proposed new quadrangle covering the Garden-Linnaean-Walker Street end of the Radcliffe dormitory area.
