Somehow or other, the word "Russian" has "unfortunate connotations" these days. At least that's what the University's old Russian Club thinks.
The club was granted permission Monday evening by the Student Council to change its name to "Slavic Society."
"We sit around, drink tea and eat crackers and caviar," according to Alexander Ogloblin '51, president of the organization. He explained yesterday the club is for study of the Russian languages. It is neither political nor ideological.
And it hasn't been getting any new members. Ogloblin thinks the name "Russian" might have scared people away. So it was changed.
"We thought we might attract some new blood." Ogloblin said last night.
