The first all-college dance since, pre-war days will be held April 28, under the auspices of the Crimson Key, Key president Bruce Harriman '50 announced last night.
The date which has been agreed upon after conferences with the Inter-House Dance Council and Athletic Director William J. Bingham '16 is the last Saturday before the spring reading period. The dance will bring to a climax the biggest athletic weekend of the spring term, according to Harriman.
In explaining the purpose of the dance, John T. Hazel '51, who has been appointed chairman of the dance committee, said that the Key and worked with Bingham to "break up the monotony of the spring term."
In scheduling two baseball games, a triangular track meet, the only home crew regatta of the year as well as tennis and lacrosse matches, Bingham has laid the foundation for the weekend and promises to repeat this type of schedule next year if the dance proves successful.
Location Presents Problem
According to Hazel the greatest problem the Key will have to face in planning this dance will be securing an adequate auditorium for the dance. "Memorial Hall is definitely out," Hazel stated strongly.
The committee would like to hold the affair in the Indoor Athletic Building but the fire rules there would limit the capacity to 800 couples. Hazel pointed out that the Freshman Jubilee drew 435 couples last May, and the Key plans to extend invitations to all of the Harvard graduate schools as well as Radcliffe.
Aside from the initial assistance to freshman this is the only activity the Key has planned which directly affects undergraduates.
