Amory Wins in School Election

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

First official results of the Cambridge School Committee election indicate that Robert Amory Jr. '36, professor of Law, is assured of a seat on the six man Committee. His candidacy was backed by the Cambridge Civic Association.

Amory led the 16 man field running for the school board with the 4756 votes he polled on the initial count but he is still 793 votes shy of the quota for election.

Roland E. Shaine '41, with 2968 and Russel A. Wood '03, with 2544 are still strong contenders for two seats which are in doubt. Both are CCA endorsed.

Others apparently certain of election to the Committee are: James J. Cassidy, 4334, an "Independent"; Pearl K. Wise, 4051, CCA; and Thomas H. D. Mahoney, 3515, CCA.

Cambridge votes on a preferential ballot. Thus tomorrow the votes of candidates who are out of the running will be distributed among the leaders.
