Soccer Team Scores 2-1 Victory Over Navy in Final Period Drive

ANNAPOLIS, Md., Oct. 29--the Varsity soccer team journeyed here by plane yesterday and broke its two-game losing streak with a fourth period drive that spilled Navy, 2 to 1.

Nothing happened for three full periods of play. But with the game beginning to look like a scoreless tie, the Crimson's John Harvey and Charlie Weiss and Navy's Dave Space kicked in the game's three goals in the space of 11 minutes of the fourth period.

Bruce Munro's varsity was a tired team after it was all over. The Crimson paid for the honor of being the first east coast soccer team ever to fly to game, for the plane was almost two hours late landing at Washington. The squad didn't get to bed until 2 a.m.

Big Last Period

Despite the lack of sleep, the team played one of its best games of the year. But it wasn't until the final quarter that the Crimson's really hustled to life.

The break came at 11:30 of the last period when the Crimson was awarded a penalty shot, and second-stringer John Harvey--the team's expert in the free shot department--made it good. But Navy's left outside, Space, broke through all alone to bent Harvard goalie whoop Batchelder and tie it up. Weiss finally snapped the tie at 16:30 with a goal after a pass play that went from Jim Bell and Ted Wolf to him.

Good Lineup

The Crimson's win, as well as ending a two-game scoreless streak, indicated that Munro's new lineup experiment is a good one. Ex-halfback Bell was at center forward for the first time, while Wolf, erstwhile holder of the position, moved over to outside left.

Immediately after the game, both teams sped to Baltimore to watch the Middies' football brothren take their 40 to 0 beating from Notre Daine.
