William Y. Elliott, LeRoy B. Williams Professor of History and Political Science, will take over as director of the Summer School for 1950, Provost Buck announced last night.
Professor Elliott succeeds George W. Adams as head of the oldest summer school in the country. Adams left at the close of the 1949 session to become dean of Colorado College.
In a statement of objectives released last night, Professor Elliott said, "We intend to continue the long tradition of... testing of new educational ideas under classroom conditions."
Elliott graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1917 and received a Ph.D. from Oxford University in 1923.
