Lamont Library Will Open Before January's Exams

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Lamont Library will be ready on Schedule for undergraduates in time for the reading period rush next January.

The date of formal dedication ceremonies remains to be set by the Board of Overseers, but Keyes D. Metcalf Librarian of the College, expects doors to open for students of January 3, 1949.

When the library is completed women will have their only chance to get inside the building during an open house tour. After that, doors will open for men only.

Only a shortage of materials--a dubious situation according to Metcalf--could hold up the $3,000,000 project. Once the finishing touches are added, the 75,000 books which will fill the library stacks will be moved in during the two week Christmas recess.

Between now and then, workman on the library have four projects ahead of them. They must complete the landscaping, install electrical fixtures, attach the heating system, and decorate the interior of the building.
