The mellow tones of both the land and the Glee Club will descend over the Yard tonight concurrently with the nostalgia-heavy Cambridge dusk to the delight of several thousand seniors, guests, and reunioning alumni.
This will be the first Class Day Yard Concert that has ever been open to the general public. There will be no admission charge and the entire Boston and Cambridge communities have been invited.
Glee Club First
G. Wallace Woodworth '24, director of the Glee Club, will mount his makeshift podium at precisely 8 o'clock and lead his group through the first part of the evening's entertainment.
Before the strains of Fair Harvard bring tears to the old grads' eyes and flnis to the concert, the Harvard Band, under the aegis of Malcoim H. Holmes '29, will replace the Glee Club on Widener steps to contribute its share to the night of melody. Joining forces, both groups will round out the evening with informal renditions of Harvard football songs.
For the first time since the Houses were built the concert will move back into the Yard. Previous to the construction program in the early thirties the traditional Class Day concert was held in the Yard, which was bedecked with Japanese lanterns.
After the Houses were built, the Class Day activities gravitated toward the river and the concert was held in the House triangle. The return to the Tercentenary theatre this year will provide enough space to enable Cantabrigians to hear the music without buying tickets.
The Band has appeared with the Glee Club in these traditional concerts only since last year.
The usual arrangements to move the concert to Sanders Theatre in the event of rain will be in effect.
