Co-ed Exams, Lamont Draw Council's Nod

The Student Council has put itself on record in favor of women in Lamont Library and women in final exams.

As a result of a straw vote taken at Monday night's meeting, Charles W. Detjen '50 and Lawrence F. O'Donnell '49 will seek out University Library Director Keyes DeW. Metcalf and tell him that the Council "looks favorably on Radcliffe use of the Lamont Library."

Metcalf announced last month that because of hidden corners and the "informal" design of the building, over one million dollars would be needed to maintain guards over a co-ed Lamont clientele. "Lamont is one of the places where Harvard and Radcliffe will not merge," he said at that time.

Council Considers Commuters

Councilmen will also study a way to facilitate book loans for commuters in the new edifice.

Replying to a request by Provost Buck that the Council study "feasibility and desirability" of combining Radcliffe and Harvard final exams, the group stated that it had "no objections" to the plan, but chivalrously referred the matter to the Radcliffe Student Government Association for its opinions.

Wonder If Women Would Mind

Some Council members have expressed doubts about the practicability of mixing 'Cliffe women, who work under an honor system, with proctored Harvard blue book writers. Main reason behind referring the subject to Radcliffe was that the female contingent might feel hampered under such conditions.
