Varsity Meets Powerful Navy Nine Here Today

The best baseball team in the Eastern League will play here at 3:45 o'clock today. Navy, which has beaten three major league teams as well as shutting out Yale, will provide the opposition as Dolph Samborski's nine attempts to snap a two game losing streak.

Red Connolly, who turned in a fine job at Worcester last week against Holy Cross, will start today's game. Connelly has been troubled all year with a bad finger on his throwing hand, but seems fully recovered now.

Middle strength lies both in pitching and fielding. Their best man, acc southpaw Dick Burton, will not work today, for Coach Max Bishop will need him tomorrow when Navy meets Dartmouth at Hanover. The two teams are currently tied for League leadership with three wins apiece.

Strong Outfield

But if Navy is holding its best man in reserve, their second hurler, Lee Rensberger, should provide plenty of trouble. And their outfield includes Bill Hawkins, erstwhile football star, and Ed Frahler, who bat three-four in the lineup and hoast fat averages.

Crimson hitting is perhaps the strongest part of the local game. Walt Coulson and Cliff Crosby have both showed good power, and Lennie Lunder and John Caulfield have each hit in the clutch in the last two weeks. Lunder broke up the Colby game with a tenth-inning double, while Caulfield dumped a clean single into center Tuesday to drive in two runs in the ninth against Northeastern.
