Radcliffe Council Asks For Activities Revote

Radcliffe will re-vote on three major issues $12 student activities fee, compulsory subscription to the Radcliffe News, and status of N.S.A. delegate--for the next nine days.

In a letter delivered to more than 900 'Cliffedwellers yesterday, Joan Projansky '49, president of the 'Cliffe Student Government Association, explained the stand taken at a meeting Saturday of the Student Council, on the disputed first vote which ended last Monday.

Quorum Required

"According to the Radcliffe Student Government constitution," Miss Projansky pointed out in the Council-sponsored letter, "all business is transacted by a majority of the quorum. The quorum is one-half the student body. The previous Council, however, decided that a $12 student activities fee must be accepted or rejected by a majority of the student body.

"The other two issues were put on the same ballot, so it was assumed, although not intended, that the majority rule applied to all three."

Only Half Voted

"When little more than half the student body had voted over a period of two weeks, the joint executive board of the new and old Councils (numbering 20-odd Student Government officers) decided, in the cause of expediency, to count a simple majority of the votes cast sufficient to pass or reject the issue.

"Student Council new feels, however, that the result of voting on all three issues was not satisfactory."

Majority Must Ballot

This time, Miss Projansky added, "A majority of the college must vote either for or against the student activity fee, and the News and the N.S.A. delegate will be determined by regular constitutional procedure."

To guarantee maximum participation, the second round of 'Cliffe balloting will be conducted in the Registrar's office. As Annex freshman, sophomores and juniors hand in their study cards during the next two weeks, they will be handed a ballot and requested to vote on the spot. Seniors' ballots-will be distributed in their Agassiz mail-boxes
