'Cliffe Book Drive Seeks Tomes for Czech University

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Not even a well-thumbed Hymarx will be spurned by Radcliffe collectors who will canvass the Annex this week in an N.S.A. sponsored drive for textbooks to restock the empty library shelves of Charles University in Prague, Czechoslovakia.

Squads of dormitory and commuter workers will tap every 'Cliffedweller this week for a minimum donation of one book in good condition or its equivalent in cash.

Lack New Books

Doris Carroll '49 and Ann Coombs '48, chairmen of the drive, have set a 1000-volume goal for the campaign, which will answer a plea for books from a student at Charles, who reported that the stacks of the third oldest university in the world contain no books published between 1938 and 1945.

Books collected during the drive will to packed into cartons, addressed to the officer of Charles known as "His Spectabilitas, the Dean of the University," and shipped off before March 1. They should arrive in time for presentation at the ceremonies marking the 600th anniversary of the university.
