Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest" will herald the revival of the long-dormant Harvard Radio Workshop tonight at 9 o'clock over WHRV.
Last heard in April, 1947, when it offered "Hello Out There," by William Saroyan, the Workshop will in the future include members of WHRV and the PBH Radio Committee, although the three groups will be independent of each other. There will also be openings for outsiders.
A governing body, headed by Gerald Genn '48, includes Robert C. Seaver '50, Gilbert S. Hill '46, Robert L. Weschler '49, and Paul W. Mandel '51. Besides actual production, the group will attempt to provide training for would-be dramatic writers.
The Workshop, heard only sporadically since the war, will now take the air on a bi-weekly schedule. Tonight's cast includes Edmund A. Levy '51, J. David Baumann '51, Sherman H. Hawkins '51, Susan Seidman, Radcliffe '50, Henrietta Broyles, Radcliffe '51, and Claire Gilman, Radcliffe '48. The script was adapted for radio by Baumann.
Levy will handle casting operations for future productions by the Workshop. Characters in tonight's drama include Algy, Lady Bracknell, Cecily, Gwen, Jack, and Dr. Chasuble. Besides acting parts, tryouts will also be held for writing and adapting scripts.
