Freshmen gave $4,000 cash and pledged an additional $6,000 to the Combined Charities Drive at registration this fall, James D. Cameron '46, campaign chairman, announced last night. Goal for the College is $25.000.
Cameron added that the freshman contribution is among the largest over tendered by a single class.
Upperclass solicitations, withheld thus far, will begin Tuesday and continue through November 12, Cameron said.
Separate Committee
Conducted by an independent committee, the campaign will distribute the collected funds among eight separate charities. No other charity drives will be conducted at the College this year, the group's spokesman declared.
Members of the committee are Cameron, Frank H. Coyne, Jr. '49, Frederick Deane '48, Chris Holabird '48,and Thomas Hyde '49.
In former years, the Student Council conducted the Combined Charities Drive. This Year the independent committee is charge, and will solicit commuters by mail at the same time the door-to-door canvassing in the Houses begins.
