A trumpeter blew as the packing-cases burned in Lowell House Courtyard last night.
The anonymously lit fire started at 11:30 p.m., drawing heads from all the windows in the yard and screams of delight from the occupants. Lowell House Janitor A1 Roach hurried to the scene with a bucket and the fire died in 15 minutes without any damage resulting.
The flames, at one stage reached the height of four stories, according to one observer.
The climax came when, as the final embers faded, a trumpet sent forth the mellow strains of "I Don't Want to set the World on Fire."
