Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
Noted for ferocity rather than finesse, the Cornell University soccer team will face the Crimson Varsity will its own peculiar type of booting at 12:00 noon at Ithaca today. The Harvard team, which lost to Springfield, 1-0, a week ago seeks its first win.
With the possible exception of the give-no-quarter extroverts from the Service academies, the Large Red collection representing Cornell plays the roughest, collision type of ball in the Eastern League. Middle Atlantic referees traditionally interpret the rules more loosely than the New England stripe, which probably counts as a disadvantage for the visiting Crimson, conditioned to stricter officiating.
Try to Adjust
At Army last year, however, the Crimson faced the same type of refereeing and the same kind of play that they are likely to see tomorrow. Team members thought they would be able to adjust to the environment.
Coach Bruce Munro will start approximately the same team as opened against Springfield except that Harvey Mudd will take over at left halfback.
Lineup
Probable Crimson starting lineup: Batchelder, g; Drake, rfb; Scully, lfb; Saul, rhb; Louria, chb; Mudd, lhb; Spivak, ro; Weiss, ri; Estin, cf; Potter (capt.), li; Dawson, lo.
Freshman Soccer
With what Freshman coach Andrew Guyda termed "good material," the Freshman soccer team opens its season this afternoon against Tabor Academy at Marion. Guyda thinks he has a line that will score some goals, especially the right side of it, and two good goalies.
The probable Freshman lineup: Covici, g; Doermann, lfb; Greenidge, rfb; Leonard, rhb; Harvey, chb; Harding, lhb; Goldstein, ro; Dreamel, ri; Chakkathaka, cf; McCallum, li; Eliot, lo, Substitutes: McLaughlin, Myers.
