Radcliffe Helens Will Launch Four Ships to Sail in Eight-Boat Regatta

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

What started as a mere yacht race between a dinghy-load of Radcliffe girls and a like contingent of Harvard Yacht Club members has turned into a full-scale regatta.

Four Radcliffe craft and four Harvard dinghies will take to the Charles from the MIT boathouse at 2:15 p.m. Thursday to settle the championship of the Charles once and for all.

Crews have yet to be found for three of the Radcliffe boats. Annex students who wish to take part in the race may sign up with Rona Jaffe '51, Felicia Reed '52, and Betty Trygstad '52, all of Briggs Hall, who first challenged Commodore Pete Putnam and his men, and who will comprise the crew of the fourth Radcliffe boat.

The Annex yachtsmen, who have been sailing from Community Sailing association docks, will get a chance to practice with MIT boats Wednesday afternoon. They will use MIT boats in the race, as will the Harvard team.

The yacht race between the Radcliffe girls and the Harvard team arose with the restoration of yachting as an official sport at Radcliffe after a wartime lapse.
