Alumni from all over the nation will converge on Philadelphia the second weekend in May for the 1948 meeting of the Associated Harvard Clubs, the first to be held in the Quaker City in 20 years.
Highlighting the three-day jamboree will be a symposium, "The Scholar's Contribution in a Free Society," at which President Conant will preside. Nationally and internationally-known speakers will headline the discussion, Gooffrey S. Smith '22, president of the Philadelphia organization, announced yesterday.
Opening Lunchcons Set
Lunchcons under the auspices of the Graduate Schools of Law, Business, Medicine, and Public Health will welcome the representatives when they arrive in Philadelphia on Friday, May 14, with plans also being made for a special luncheon devoted to General Education.
Not everything will be business, Tobias Wagner '26, publicity chairman said, as Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday will be set aside for the Harvard-Penn baseball tilt, "informal games," and tennis and golf at nearby country clubs.
Balanced Program
"We are going out of our way to make this year's gathering one of the most interesting, most entertaining, and most memorable ever to take place," Wagner stated. "Our program will not only include good fun, as usual, but also the intellectual aspects befitting the dignity of the University."
Assisting President Smith in the direction of the meeting will be Henry B. Coxe, Jr. '20, general manager, and Morris Duane '23, chairman of the 16-man Steering Committee.
