Marx's theory on evolution is just as applicable to primitive societies as it is to advanced ones, Bernhard J. Sterm told the John Reed Society's final forum on Marxism and Modern Thought last night.

Stern, an author, editor, and lecturer in Sociology at Columbia, said that in a society producing a large amount of economic surplus, there comes an increase in culture, irrespective of the technique used in producing that surplus.
