Varsity Crew Picks Stone as '47 Captain; Freshman' 150 Boat Opens Season Today

Yardling oarsmen will open the Charles racing season today when the Freshman 150-pound crew takes to the water against the M.I.T. lightweights and the Browne and Nichols School, starting at 5:20 o'clock from the Tech boathouse. The Freshman heavies are slated to race tomorrow.

Julian Roosevelt will stroke the 'fifties in their first outing of the year. Coach Bert Haines, who knows no more of his opponents than what he has been able to garner from a "couple of looks at them practicing," was unwilling to hazard a guess at the results yesterday.

The Freshman heavy shell will take part in tomorrow's regatta against Princeton and Tech over the mile-and-three-quarters course. Charlie Rimmer, newly elected captain and number seven man, will lead his mates against reputedly strong opposition, while Jim Homans will be in the stroke's slide for the opener today.

Freshmen Have Weight

Coach Harvey Love has four big men in the middle positions of his boat, as Eric Osborne, Ted Reynolds, George Lodge, and Bob Taggart fill the seats from six through three John Hutchinson and George Dwight, at two and bow, respectively, fill out the boating.
