Dean Hanford made the following announcement yesterday concerning attendance at classes immediately before and after the coming vacation:
"The attention of students in Harvard College is called to the regulations concerning attendance at the last college exercise before and first college exercise after the April recess, as printed in 'Regulations for Students,' page four:
Freshman, Sophomore Rules
"'A Freshman or Sophomore in good standing but not on the Dean's List who is absent from his last college exercise before or his first college exercise after the Christmas or April recess will be placed on probation for a period of time to be determined by the Administrative Board.
"'A Junior or Senior not on the Dean's List who fails to attend his last college exercise before or his first college exercise after the Christmas or April recess will not necessarily be placed on probation at that time, although such cuts will weigh heavily against him if his record becomes unsatisfactory.'
Students' Responsibility
"Meeting these requirements is the responsibility of every student. Transportation difficulties experienced when returning to college do not automatically excuse lateness. If a plane, train, or bus is cancelled or is late, concrete evidence of that fact must be presented to the Assistant Dean concerned. Mere assignment to a waiting list as regards plane travel is not sufficient; a man must prove that he actually held a ticket...
"Except for first-term Freshmen, midterm grades do not entitle a man to Dean's List standing, even though they may be sufficiently high. Dean's Lists are made on the basis of final term grades only."
