Matthiessen Receives Degree at Princeton

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

F. O. Matthiessen, professor of History and Literature, and Secretary of the State George Catlett Marshall received honorary LL.D. degree Saturday, at Princeton's Alumni day ceremonies, along with 33 other award recipients.

Before 3,300 students and faculty members, Secretary Marshall warned that the world is in a period as crucial for global stability as that of recent war years.

There has been a "cessation of hostilities," he said, "but we have no genuine peace ... Now that an immediate peril is not plainly visible, there is a national tendency to relax, and to return to business as usual, politics as psual, pleasure as usual."
