N.H. Troopers Still Hunting For Gardiner

Police Probe All 'Blind Alleys'; Snowbound Citizens Report 'Discovering' Missing Junior

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

What were characterized as "mostly blind alleys" by Lieutenant John F. Lockwood of the New Hampshire State Police, were still being diligently probed by him last night, as the imaginations of snowbound residents worked overtime in zealously reporting the whereabouts of Sylvester Gardiner '46, missing from College since January 23.

A habitant of Chocura contacted headquarters in Concord early in the morning with a full description of Gardiner, but the questioning of Lockwood proved the information "somewhat shaky."

Ski Possibility Covered

On the hunch that the missing Varsity oarsman might be indulging his fondness for skiing, the Lieutenant declared that Sergeant Stewart Currier, in charge of the troop in the area of the Dartmouth winter carnival, would have his men on particular lookout this weekend.

Also taking part in the checkup there, Lockwood disclosed, will be an old College friend of Gardiner's who wished his name withheld.

Alfred Boley, counterman of the Meredith roadhouse where he claimed serving Gardiner and a shorter companion on January 28, examined battery rosters of the 97th New Hampshire National Guard, in an unsuccessful effort to identify the second man who called the employee "an old Leyte buddy."
